Five years of Egal · 2021–2026

Five years of making pads as accessible as toilet paper.

Egal began with one practical belief: period products belong inside the stall, right next to the toilet paper. Five years later, that idea has moved from schools into airports, stadiums, hospitals, museums, workplaces, and public spaces around the world.

The five-year journey

One familiar format. A much bigger reach.

Egal’s story is a reminder that the most useful innovations can feel obvious once they exist.

2021

A simple idea becomes Egal.

Students were missing class because period products were unavailable, unaffordable, or located outside the stall. Egal began with a familiar answer: put individually wrapped pads on a roll and make them available beside the toilet paper.

2022

The product enters the conversation.

Pads on a Roll moved from concept toward a facility-ready system and won the 2022 HYGIENIX Innovation Award™.

2023

Mentors and global partners help the roll travel.

Egal joined the Tech4Eva accelerator, worked with MIT Venture Mentoring Service, and won the Essity Ventures EVolution co-creation challenge as the team prepared to grow beyond the United States.

2024

Recognition—and new kinds of restrooms.

The Women’s Health Innovation Award, the Massachusetts Innovation Network Eddies Award for Healthtech, and a North American Office Products Award helped validate the system for facilities beyond education.

2025

A breakthrough year around the world.

Egal reported reaching 2,000 schools while expanding across airports, stadiums, hospitals, museums, workplaces, manufacturing facilities, and other public spaces. TIME Best Inventions and major design, sustainability, facilities, and global-expansion awards followed.

2026

Five years in. Still rolling forward.

The countries, facilities, and policy landscape have changed. The mission has not: make period products ordinary, accessible, and easy to maintain wherever people spend time away from home.

Five years of policy change

Period care is becoming school infrastructure.

The laws are different. The direction is clear.

Some states have broad mandates; others create grants, pilots, or authorized programs. Together, they show a growing recognition that period products are a basic requirement for students to participate fully in the school day.

Egal helps turn that commitment into a practical in-stall system. Schools should always confirm current state and agency guidance before procurement.

The idea expanded

Schools were the starting point—not the finish line.

The same need exists anywhere people spend time away from home. By the end of 2025, Egal reported reaching 2,000 schools while continuing to grow across demanding public and workplace environments.

Schools and universities

Where the work began: helping students access products privately without leaving the stall or missing class.

Airports and transportation

For travelers and employees who may be hours away from their destination or unable to leave a secure area.

Stadiums and venues

So an unexpected period does not mean missing the event or searching a crowded concourse for help.

Hospitals and healthcare

Discreet, reliable access for patients, visitors, clinicians, and the teams keeping healthcare facilities running.

Museums and public spaces

A practical amenity for libraries, museums, zoos, parks, and other places designed to welcome the public.

Workplaces and industry

A straightforward restroom standard for offices, manufacturing facilities, and employees across every shift.

Global growth

A simple format crossed borders.

Different markets have different laws, facilities, and procurement systems. The shared idea is the same everywhere: period products should be available where they are needed most.

Awards and milestones

Recognition for the product—and the change behind it.

Introducing a new restroom standard takes trust. Each recognition has helped validate a simple roll-based solution for the people using it and the facilities maintaining it.

The mission is still as simple as the product.

Five years brought new laws, new countries, new facilities, and new recognition. The goal remains the same: make period products as ordinary, accessible, and easy to maintain as toilet paper.

To every student advocate, facilities leader, distributor, investor, mentor, partner, customer, and team member who helped move the roll forward: thank you.

We are five years in—and still just getting started.
